Courtyards at Southpoint
Luminaries to Light Up Our Neighborhood Again
By Jill Pafford
Courtyards at Southpoint will celebrate our 6th annual Luminary Night Sunday, Dec. 14, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
We are coordinating with the Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Triangle again this year. All proceeds will support its mission to provide housing for out-of-town families with children who are being treated at local hospitals.
The luminaries represent a light shining in the darkness, whether that is a reference to one of the many December holidays, the winter solstice or the light of human kindness. It is so much fun to walk the neighborhood streets on luminary night, meeting neighbors and seeing the beauty of our entire neighborhood lit with candles. Yes, the new section will participate as well!
Important information:
-
Place your order by Dec. 5 by clicking here. You can purchase luminaries and/or give a donation separately.
-
A typical lot will only need one kit, which will provide 10 bags of luminaries and cost only $10. If you are on a corner lot, you can choose to buy two kits and place your bags on both streets, but you are not obligated to do so. Anyone can purchase extra kits to be used in the common areas. These extra bags will help fill in the areas between homes and around the amenity areas, so that every street is filled with candlelight! If you purchase extra bags for this purpose or if you do not need all 10 of your own bags, please let me know!
-
This year, two bag crews will assemble, fill and distribute the extra kits in the common areas on the afternoon of Sunday, Dec. 14. Please let me know if you want to be on one of the bag crews. We need lots of volunteers!
-
Your luminary supplies will be delivered to your front porch the morning of Friday, Dec. 12.
-
If you cannot assemble your bags or are out of town on Luminary Night, the bag crew can help assemble and place your bags. All you need to do is purchase them and let me know you need help in assembling or placing your bags. Also, please note the sand is usually so wet that assembling your bags too far in advance makes the bag bottoms soggy. You can fold the bags in advance, but it is best to let someone else assemble them the afternoon of the luminary event.
-
On the evening of Dec. 14, make sure your bags are assembled, equally spaced along your curb — not on the grass or the sidewalk — and the candles are lit by 5:30 p.m. Then walk around the neighborhood that night, meet others and enjoy the beautiful candlelit streets! Stations with drinks and treats will be located at individual homes — locations to be announced separately. Walk around and visit them all!
-
Bags should be removed from the streets on Monday morning, Dec. 15.
