March 2026 Social Committee Report
Is it Spring Yet?
By Jan McCallum, Co-chair
After a chilly start to the year, February brought its usual mixed bag of weather, but there was plenty of activity in the neighborhood. The highlight of the month was Valentine Bingo Night, when about 50 residents shared a potluck dinner, might have enjoyed an adult beverage and played 10 rousing games of bingo. We cleared $566 for a worthy neighborhood cause.
The social committee thanks Linda Goelz, Bev A-Z, Peppy David and Rex McCallum for helping out. Congrats to the winners!
Other activities last month included our annual neighborhood read, where we discussed the book Golden Years: How Americans Invented and Reinvented Old Age, by James Chappel. We were lucky to have the author on hand as we shared the insights gleaned from the book. Henry Greenside regaled us with information about the Durham Night Sky during our speaker series presentation, and the food truck for February was Cilantro Mexican.
Just over 100 neighbors completed the Social Committee’s interest survey. Stay tuned for information about new clubs/interest groups that will be starting up soon.
If you are interested in taking American Mah Jongg lessons, they will be offered at the clubhouse March 9-11. Beginner classes are from 9 a.m. to noon, and Beyond Beginner classes are from 1 to 4 p.m. on those days — Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Cost for lessons is $125 per person. Click here for payment information and to reserve a spot.
