November 2026 Social Committee Report
Happy Hour, OctoberFest, Speakers, Coats and Food Trucks

By Lynn Black and Ginny VanWagner, Co-chairs

The social committee is moving and grooving to bring you fun activities this fall.

  • Happy Hour — Sheryl Knauss is back and preparing goodies with her usual creative flair. Be sure to stop by our popular neighborhood Happy Hour at the clubhouse every second Friday of the month. Bring your favorite beverage, and Sheryl will whip up delicious, tasty treats to enjoy.

  • Oktoberfest — Our first Oktoberfest was a big success, despite the rainstorms! Seventy-four people RSVP’d for City BBQ. Many, many thanks to neighbors who brought all the yummy sides to share. We have a lot of talented chefs at Courtyards at Southpoint.

  • Speaker Series — Mike Woodard, a former state senator, spoke about North Carolina politics Oct. 5. We had more than 60 people in attendance for this interesting lecture. (See a report in this newsletter.) Then, well-known North Carolina journalist Rob Christensen spoke about the history of the Raleigh News & Observer and the Daniels family Oct. 28. He spent 45 years covering state politics for the N & O and retired in 2018. He has written several books about North Carolina politics and history. Mark your calendars for Nov. 18 to hear Executive Director Laura Wells talk about Hope NC, a nonprofit based in Chapel Hill that works to create affordable, inclusive housing for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

  • Durham Rescue Mission Coat Drive — Starting Nov. 9, Courtyards at Southpoint will once again collect coats, sweaters and sweatshirts for men, women and children. (For more details, see the article about the Coat Drive in this newsletter.) A bin will be placed in the clubhouse for all donations. Thank you in advance for your assistance in helping our local Durham residents this year.

  • Food Trucks — Due to the holidays, the food trucks will not be stopping by in November and December. Food trucks will start again in January 2027 and be at the clubhouse on the fourth Thursday of each month.

Stay tuned for more holiday events in December.

If you would like to join the Social Committee and can help out with a few events or have ideas for new ones, please contact the HOA board at hoa.cyasp@gmail.com. We always are looking for new fun things to do with our great neighborhood.
