November 2026 Amenities Committee Report
Winterizing, Thermostats and Ongoing Upkeep
By Lin Strube
As the temperature cools and we ease into fall, the Amenities Committee is looking ahead to the effects of the freezing temperatures during winter.
To protect our amenities from cold weather and to reduce energy costs, the following procedures will be implemented in November:
-
Changes at the two pavilion bathrooms are planned for the slower winter season. One bathroom will be closed, and one will remain open as a unisex facility, allowing us to run only one electric heater. Signage at the bathrooms will reflect this change.
-
·The pavilion’s outside shower and one bathroom, in addition to the outside water fountains in the pavilion and clubhouse, will be winterized.
-
Insulated covers for the outside faucets and showers at the clubhouse and pavilion have been purchased and will be installed.
While investigating a higher-than-normal gas bill for the summer months, we learned the thermostat settings in the clubhouse were inadvertently set incorrectly, possibly causing the unit to flip between heat and AC and raising our gas bill. There could be other explanations for an atypical bill, but the thermostat settings have been reset, and we request you avoid adjusting them. Additionally, during the HVAC inspection, the airflow in the exercise and conference rooms were increased to improve comfort.
Other actions for the month include:
-
Completion of the annual fire extinguisher inspection, with several extinguishers being replaced.
-
Completion of the quarterly fitness equipment maintenance, with Pro Source reporting parts for the exercise bike are no longer available.
-
Review and update of the Courtyards at Southpoint Rules and Regulations for Community Amenities.
Thanks once again to our committee members for all their time and hard work: Joanne Adney, Diane Bloomfield, Paige Boyette, Sherry Dayal, Jeff Davidson, Geneise Horton, David Strube, Lin Strube, Betsy Thomas and Le Anne Worsham.
