One of the most common things I hear residents of Courtyards at Southpoint say about living here is how much they appreciate their neighbors. In my experience, this is no small thing! It’s one thing to love your house, or to love the location or the look of your neighborhood, or even to enjoy your immediate neighbors. But it’s quite another to genuinely like spending time with and doing social activities with your neighborhood as a whole.

 

By the time we get to the “55 friendly” age, most of us have had plenty of time to make friends and find a place in our community. However, many Courtyards at Southpoint residents have recently downsized, moved from the place they spent their working lives, relocated to be closer to children and grandchildren, or chosen to live in a house they can grow old in. We find ourselves adjusting to a new community, looking for new friends and searching for new doctors, dentists, housekeepers, hair cutters, grocery stores, pharmacies, banks, lawyers, accountants, churches, volunteer opportunities, adult learning, gyms — all of the things — and trying to learn our way around our new city. To have found ourselves in a welcoming, active and inclusive neighborhood has been a real blessing!

 

So, cheers to everyone who has helped make this community such a joy in which to reside! From our hard-working HOA board, to committee chairs and members, to all who volunteer in the neighborhood, to everyone who is a kind, respectful neighbor, you are the ones who make our community a great one. Each of you are valued and welcome here. Thanks for your contributions to our lives in Durham!

 

Community events for November:

• Our Speaker Series will be 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, featuring Stuart “Jeb” Saunders discussing fraud prevention.

• Happy Hour will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14.

• We will decorate the clubhouse for the holidays 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Nov. 22. Look for more information on the festivities, including the potluck brunch and the kickoff of the Toys for Tots drive.
