May 2025 Landscape Maintenance Committee Report
What BoyCo is Up To
By Dennis Steil, chair
Greetings and happy spring, dear neighbors. Several of you — well a few; actually, only a couple — have asked me what the landscape contractor, BoyCo, is doing around here.
After walking with BoyCo’s boss on April 16, I learned the following things, in no particular or even recognizable order:
-
Starting in late April, the clubhouse irrigation system is being inspected and its functioning assessed regularly.
-
The plants surrounding the clubhouse that certainly looked dead to me were found to be harboring life, so BoyCo will allow them to stay and monitor their health. If they don’t come around, the plants will be evicted.
-
The vines along the fence and wall north of the clubhouse will be trimmed back from the fence and checked to be sure they do not cling to the retaining wall.
-
The weather finally is warm enough to allow weed control measures to start. This should have begun in late April. Also, fertilizer will be applied in the hopes that our generally anemic lawn turf soon will be a healthy green.
-
The nature trail on the south side of Cherob Lane features some low, boggy spots. We will address them by having BoyCo change course a bit when mowing to avoid huge muddy spaces and to keep the trail from sucking in unsuspecting pets and their owners.
I encourage all our neighbors and especially those in the most recently completed section to check the condition of their plants and trees and be sure to water them as needed.
Also, please obey the speed limit when driving in the neighborhood. There have been a couple of recent “near misses” related to excessive speed. Remember: Trees grow slowly; what’s your hurry?
On a personal note. We are soon to have an election for a homeowner-controlled HOA board. The new board likely will ask for new members for established committees. In any case, after four years, I will rotate off the Landscape Committee, so another brave soul will be writing these missives for you in the future. It has been an exhausting, often frustrating, enlightening and altogether wonderful experience for me to represent the interests of our community in this capacity. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve you all, and I am looking forward to some time off. Please support whoever takes over this job.
